Out of the shadows Feb. 1, 2013
So, what exactly is a personal assistant/PR/writer for the
Virgin Mayor expected to do?
It isn’t like she any more qualified to perform such tasks,
than she has been for any one of her other professions from chef to horse
trainer.
I suppose with the title comes rapid on-the-job training
like her boss at the restaurant required her to do when he hired her to tend bar
back before any of the stuff she’s been through since.
She is a quick learner, if nothing else.
Will she be writing press releases? Considering that the
mayor already has a PR guy from Newark, her job must lean more heavily on the
personal assistant aspect.
She once claimed that her identity comes from what she does
for a living, and I believe this.
At the same time, she’s impatient, assuming that her talents
will eventually lead her to attain greatness.
She’s always in a rush, which may explain her need to – as she
calls it – to trickle up. She has immense talent and yet feels the need to take
short cuts.
There is the assumption here that her agenda differs from RR’s.
Both need to use the Virgin Mayor. RR wants to get back into
the game, have a position of power from which he can once more make his moves, given
the rank of duke or lord, while for the most part allowing the king to remain
king.
Her ambition goes far beyond any of that, and I suspect she
doesn’t really believe any of the political bullshit, acting out her petty role
until she can find another stepping stone to advance herself beyond mere
titles. If there is a crown to be had, she wants to wear it, and she isn’t the
kind to want to get elected to anything.
In almost all the places she’s ever been, she always tried
to rise to a position where she calls the shots, and that won’t happen when she
is answerable to a mayor.
Yet each time she starts in such petty positions, she acts gung-ho,
trying to prove how worthy she is, and then after a time, she gets exhausted by
having to actually do the job she was hired to do, and seems to find a way to
get around it, mostly be seeking a promotion.
In this case, she has inserted herself into someone else’s
power pyramid, starting out ahead of other people, and from what I’ve gathered
some of the mayor’s long-time supporters are blaming RR not her, though also
may come to dislike her as well if she adopts an attitude of superiority as she
sometimes apparently has in the past.
This resentment comes partly because everybody up there in
city hall is jockeying for their own positions of power and may well see her as
a threat as she slides into a slot that gives her direct access to the mayor
when many others lack it.
These are the mayor’s people. How much worse does it get
when it comes to his political enemies who still reside in city hall and who
are constantly plotting his demise, and they may indeed see her as a weakness
they can exploit.
How long before the whole thing implodes. It may already be
imploding.
She gambles a lot that the Virgin Mayor will survive his
current legal troubles, and may well be so damaged if he does, he won’t be able
to protect her or RR.
She and RR have also come out from the shadows, and so are
easy targets – which is one more reason she might want to jump ship before people
realize the ship has hit an iceberg.
